I believe that there is a great deal of luck involved in the career path of most individuals. Certainly, in my case, it was fortunate that after eight years in various agencies I crossed the threshold of what was to become the largest advertising agency in the world. The famous (and sometimes infamous) Saatchi & Saatchi.

I spent 17 memorable years in those hallowed corridors working with some of the greatest advertising people around. It was my view however, that by the late 1980's the agency had pinnacled and I felt that it was time to establish my own company.

Rathbone opened its doors in 1991 with just myself and one other media executive. We had no clients (restriction contract with Saatchi's) so it was a case of literally knocking on doors for business.

Before too long we managed to talk a few clients into taking a chance with us. We did not ask for contracts for the simple reason that it gave our prospects the reassurance that if we did not perform satisfactorily, they could just walk way. To this day Rathbone Media still do not require fixed contracts - we are confident in our ability.

Over the years that followed, our client base consistently grew and better still, we did not lose any!! Many of the new clients came from referrals from existing companies and this is still true today.

Rathbone Media Limited is now probably the largest fully independent advertising agency outside London and Manchester and it is our intention to continue steadily growing whilst retaining a solid base of great advertising people - it's the people that make the agency!
